🦕 Do your little learners love dinosaurs? So di 🦕 Do your little learners love dinosaurs? So did my last U16 class! 🦖✨

During this past dinosaur inquiry, we explored their wonders like, why they went extinct, where they lived, and what they ate through hands-on centres, art projects, and collaborative learning. 🎨🔍

Check out how we brought this prehistoric inquiry to life in our classroom—from hands-on centres to student-created displays! 🧠💡

I always like to add a little note to any inquiry posts I share that I did with this group. I only had 15 kids that year, and many were reading and writing abovegrade level with fantastic fine motor skills. Almost all of the SKs were reading at or above grade level (PM 6 at the time), and a few were reading at a Grade 2 level. I even had JKs who were reading They felt more like a Grade One class than a Kindergarten class, especially at this point in the year.

And this was before SOR was mainstream—these were just kids who naturally picked up reading and writing. (Of course, I was teaching them too, but we were still using sight words, LLI, and all the approaches we now know aren’t best practices.) We also had no major behaviour challenges.

I’m sharing this because if you look at the writing or drawings in the photos and think, “Wow. Most of my class isn’t even close to this…” — THAT’S OK. Most years, mine weren’t either.

Instagram is a highlight reel. And as cliché as it sounds, comparison truly is the thief of joy.

I hope you still find inspiration and ideas here 💛

“What centres do you put out for Welcome to Kind “What centres do you put out for Welcome to Kindergarten Night?”

This is one of the most common questions I get — and I totally get it! You want something fun, hands-on, and in coming JK-friendly… without creating a giant mess to clean up after a long day 😅

In this post, I’m sharing all my go-to, low-prep, no-mess centres that are perfect for Welcome to Kindergarten. These are tried-and-true from my own classroom — and bonus: lots of them are FREE and linked in my WTK highlight! 💛

PLUS — a few amazing fellow educators (thank you again @janyastrever and @josiemac07!) shared what’s worked well for their WTK nights too! So you’re getting even more inspiration straight from the community 🙌

Looking for meaningful Mother’s Day ideas that m Looking for meaningful Mother’s Day ideas that moms will love?

I’ve rounded up my favourite crafts, gifts, and cards in one blog post — plus a brand new FREE printable that’s sure to melt hearts! 💐💌✨

I know Mother’s (and Father’s) Day can be a sensitive topic in classrooms. So let’s lead with kindness and do what’s best for our groups. If you’re skipping it this year — that’s 100% okay. You know your kiddos best.

But if you’re looking for simple, thoughtful ideas, I’ve got you covered!

This year, I’m sharing something new:

✨ A FREE “All About My Mom” questionnaire — a sweet keepsake you helps kids fill out and gift!

As a mom myself, these are hands down my favourite gifts to receive!

And don’t worry — there are versions for aunts, grandmas, and special people too, so hopefully everyone can join in🤍

PLUS, I’ve updated my popular bouquet card (also free!):
💖 Now includes a “person” version (not just for moms!)
💬 New message option: “I Love You!” instead of “Happy Mother’s Day” — so it works for anyone who deserves some extra love.

🌷 Comment MOTHER and I’ll send you the link to the blog post where you can grab all the freebies + see more ideas!

Is centre time chaos making it impossible to run s Is centre time chaos making it impossible to run small groups? This one shift changed everything for us.👇

*I shared this last year, but now that the weather is finally warming up, I thought it was the perfect time to bring it up again! 🌞 I know this idea works best with classrooms that have two educators, so if you’re a solo educator and have a great tip for reducing centre time noise, please share in the comments!
_______________________________________

Ok, here’s the backstory:

We were drowning in noise, constant interruptions, and the dreaded spring fever that hit right around March. But then, my teaching partner had a genius idea that completely turned our classroom dynamics around. 🎉

We split the class in half and sent one group outside for part of the afternoon while I ran guided groups and math centres inside. It made a HUGE difference.

🌟 The result?

With fewer kids inside, our room was so much quieter, and my intervention students could focus like never before. Plus, the outdoor group still got learning in with outdoor activities, from chalking letters to nature drawings and even bubbles. ☀️

Swipe through to see how we made this shift and how you can do it too!

Do you think this would work in your classroom? What activities would you plan for outdoor centre time?

Let’s talk in the comments!
