Last Updated: March 5, 2026
The 2026 Ontario Kindergarten Math Curriculum introduces important clarifications, expanded number expectations (0–20), and structural changes across strands.
On this page, you’ll find:
- What changed
- What stayed the same

- Exactly how my Year-Long Kindergarten Math Bundles have been updated (or are currently being updated) to align
If you teach Kindergarten in Ontario, this page will help you understand what actually needs to shift — and what doesn’t.
All bundle updates will be fully completed by July 2026.
Over the past several months, I have carefully compared the 2016 and 2026 Kindergarten Mathematics expectations line by line to ensure full alignment across all printable and digital units for the 2026/2027 school year.
My goal is simple: To provide Ontario teachers with a developmentally appropriate, curriculum-aligned math system they can continue to trust.

🧮 UNIT-BY-UNIT BREAKDOWN
If more than the curriculum language was updated in Year-Long Kindergarten Math Lessons & Centres | Ontario Curriculum Bundle, you can see the full breakdown below.
🔢 Number Sense & Operations
What Changed in the 2026 Curriculum:
The 2026 number expectations expand the range from 0–10 to 0–20 for counting, number relationships, and numeral writing. While the 2016 curriculum emphasized representing numbers in meaningful contexts, the 2026 curriculum strengthens clarity and scope by requiring students to identify, write, compare, and describe relationships between numbers to 20, along with recalling addition facts to 5 and solving equal-share problems. Overall, the strand reflects a noticeable increase in range and precision.
What I’ve updated to align with the 2026 curriculum:
NEW UNIT: Teen Numbers Google Slides™ – Kindergarten Whole Group Math Lessons added to cover these number sense and operations expectations:
- A6.3 identify and write numbers to 20
- A6.8 count to 20 by 1s, starting from any number
- A6.10 describe relationships between any two numbers from 0 to 20
Published On: February 7, 2026
🟡 Patterns and Relationships
What Changed in the 2026 Curriculum:
The core patterning expectations remain the same. Students are still expected to identify, describe, create, extend, and represent repeating patterns, including identifying the core.
The primary shift is in clarity and precision of language. The updated curriculum:
- Emphasizes that the core remains consistent when patterns are represented in different ways
- Explicitly requires students to extend patterns in both directions
- Clearly states that students must identify missing elements within a pattern
Overall, the content change is minimal. Expectations are slightly more explicit — particularly around extending patterns backward — but the mathematical thinking remains aligned with previous practice.
What I’ve updated to align with the 2026 curriculum:
- Added:
- One lesson added to explicitly teach extending patterns in both directions (Day 9)
- Sticker Patterns! printable (not a curriculum alignment but just a fun alternative to the Dabber Patterns centres)
- “I can make an AB/___ pattern 4 ways!” printables
- Strips for practicing extending patterns in both directions with counting bears
- Strips to practice identifying the missing element in a pattern with snap/unifix cubes
- Strips to practice identifying the missing element in a pattern with counting bears
- Revised:
- Curriculum expectations updated on lesson plan pages
- Removed: None
Do You Need to Reprint?
- ✔ Required: Pages 6-7, 103-122
- Optional: Pages 70
Updated On: February 17, 2026
📊 Data Literacy and Probability
What Changed in the 2026 Curriculum:
The 2026 data literacy and probability expectations maintain the same overall cycle of sorting, collecting, displaying, and interpreting data, with clearer organization and explicit attention to sorting by one attribute (which is what we were doing before). Comparison language is slightly simplified, while probability vocabulary is strengthened through the use of terms like possible, impossible, and certain (again, we were already covering this before). Overall, the strand is streamlined but conceptually the same as the 2016 expectations.
What I’ve updated to align with the 2026 curriculum:
🔺 Geometric and Spatial Reasoning
The 2026 geometry expectations are more specific and structured, clearly naming required two- and three-dimensional shapes while maintaining composing, decomposing, and 2D–3D relationship skills. Spatial reasoning is expanded through more detailed vocabulary, perspective-taking, and giving and following directions, including movement sequencing. Symmetry remains, but the emphasis shifts from predicting reflective folds to constructing designs with matching halves.
What I’ve updated to align with the 2026 curriculum:
- Added:
- One lesson added to explicitly address A9.3
- “2D Shapes in My Structure” centre printables added to go with the new lesson
- Revised:
- Curriculum expectations updated on lesson plan pages
- Removed: None
Do You Need to Reprint?

- Added:
- A new printable that can be added to your wooden/foam block centre after introducing 3D figures
- Revised:
- Curriculum expectations updated on lesson plan pages

Do You Need to Reprint?
- ✔ Required: Pages 6-7 and 171

📏 Measurement
What Changed in the 2026 Curriculum:
The 2026 measurement expectations shift from explicitly measuring with non-standard units to primarily describing and comparing length, area, mass, and capacity using concrete materials. Temperature and the measurement of time are no longer included. Overall, the strand is simplified, with less emphasis on formal measurement procedures and more focus on comparison and descriptive vocabulary.
