CVC Bingo Game | Short-Vowel Word Reading & Picture Matching

Make CVC decoding and blending practice fun with this colourful, hands-on CVC Bingo game!

Students read a CVC word calling card, blend the sounds and cover the corresponding real photograph on their bingo board. The first player to cover four pictures in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins.

With 10 different boards, this game is ideal for small-group phonics instruction. The simple format also makes it easy to leave for an occasional teacher, substitute teacher or classroom volunteer.

How to play:

1. Give each student a CVC Bingo board and a set of counters.
2. Shuffle the CVC word calling cards and place them face down.
3. Turn over one calling card.
4. Read and blend the CVC word.
5. Have students cover the corresponding photograph if it appears on their board.
6. Continue until a student covers four pictures in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

Students can take turns reading the calling cards, or an educator or volunteer can act as the caller.
