New Year’s Activities for Kindergarten | Google Slides™ Literacy & Math | Free
Looking for an easy way to bring the new year into your literacy and math time? This free set of digital New Year’s activities is ready to assign or project. The pieces are movable, so students can drag, drop and type right on the slide.
You can assign the slides in Google Classroom, or share your screen and work through them together as a class (in Google Meet or Zoom, for example). You can also download the file as a PowerPoint and use it on your interactive whiteboard or use it with a projector.
What’s included (13 slides)
Literacy
- Happy New Year! Students drag the stars to build the sentence “Happy New Year!”
- New Year’s Beginning Sounds (2 slides). Students say the picture, listen for the beginning sound and move the letter tile to the correct spot. Six words are included: midnight, fireworks, calendar, party hat, confetti and noise maker.
Math
- Build 2027. Students use the number balloons to build a 2027 balloon decoration.
- How Many? (2 slides). Students count the pictures and drag the matching number to each box. Numbers 1 to 6 are on the first slide and 7 to 10 on the second.
- New Year’s Patterns (3 slides). Students extend each pattern by dragging pictures to the line. AB, ABB and ABC patterns are included.
- Make Your Own Pattern. Students use the New Year’s pictures to create a pattern, then complete the sentence in the yellow box.
- Measure the New Year’s Images (3 slides). Students measure the party hat, the balloon and the noise maker with the stars on each slide, then type how many to complete the sentence.
Students practise:
- Building a simple sentence
- Hearing and matching beginning sounds
- Building the new year with numerals
- Counting and matching numbers to 10
- Recognizing, extending and creating patterns
- Measuring with non-standard units
- Using a mouse or touchscreen to drag, drop and type
❗Important❗
Please use the slides in Edit mode rather than Present mode so the movable pieces work.
Good to know
- If students are using an iPad or tablet in Google Classroom, they will need the Google Slides app to move the pieces.
- Updated for 2027 on October 30, 2026. Please make a new copy if you already own it and want the updated copy.
I hope your students enjoy these activities.
