New Year Activities & Printables for Kindergarten | Writing, Math & Art | FREE
Looking for ready-to-print activities to make the first week back in January a little easier to plan? This free New Year set includes writing, number, art and pattern block activities you can use in centres, small groups or morning work.
What’s Included:
- Winter Break Writing Papers: Students draw and write about something they did over the break. Includes draw-and-write pages with the sentence starter “Over the winter break I…” and a full lined page.
- New Year Firework Art: Step-by-step instructions for a paint-and-stamp firework painting, plus a “Happy New Year!” tracing label for students to write their name and glue onto their art.
- New Year Number Puzzle: Students trace the year, then put the scrambled digit cards in order to build it. Years 2027 to 2030, with two page styles for each year.
- New Year Q-Tip & Paint Activity: Q-Tip painting pages for the years 2027 to 2030.
- Pattern Block Build & Trace: Eight New Year designs: clock, party hat (two versions), firecracker, fireworks, balloon, calendar and party horn. Each comes in colour and black and white. Three designs include two word labels (midnight or clock, January 1 or calendar, party horn or noisemaker), so you can choose the vocabulary that fits your students.
Students practise:
- Writing about their own experiences
- Tracing, forming and recognizing numerals
- Ordering digits to build a four-digit year
- Composing shapes with pattern blocks
- Fine motor skills through tracing, stamping and painting
- Reading and tracing New Year words
Good to know:
- This is a print-and-go PDF (not editable). The Number Puzzle needs a quick cut of the digit cards.
- You’ll need pattern blocks for activity 5.
- For the firework art: paint, black construction paper, paper towel or toilet paper rolls and plastic plates.
- For the Q-Tip activity: Q-Tips and paint.
