Four Differentiated Recording Options:

Read, Stack & Match
Students read the printed words and cut and paste the corresponding pictures beneath them.

Trace, Stack & Match
Students trace the CVC words and cut and paste the corresponding pictures beneath them.

Write, Stack & Match
Students independently write the CVC words and cut and paste the corresponding pictures beneath them.

Read, Stack & Record
Students independently record the six words inside a blank cup pyramid to show how they arranged their cups.
Choose the format that best matches each student’s reading, printing and fine motor abilities.

How to prepare the centre:

1. Print the picture cards and word-pattern stacking cards.
2. Cut apart the six picture cards.
3. Laminate the pieces, if desired.
4. Tape one picture card to each plastic or paper cup.
5. Set out the six picture cups with the corresponding stacking card.
6. Have students read the words and stack the cups to recreate the pyramid.

Printing each short-vowel set on a different colour of paper can make the centre easier to organize. Nine-ounce plastic cups work well, but other paper or plastic cups may also be used.

Cups are not included.
