Students choose a letter or picture card, say the letter or beginning sound, find the matching letter on their mat and then trace or write it. Place the cards in a sensory bin for an engaging search activity or simply use them on a table.

HOW TO USE:

Print and laminate the mats and cards. Place the cards in a sensory bin filled with rice, beans or another classroom-safe material, or arrange them on a table.

Students:

1. Choose a card and say the letter or beginning sound.
2. Find the corresponding letter on the mat.
3. Place the card in the “Find It!” box.
4. Trace or write the letter in the final box.

Use the same-font letter cards when first introducing the activity. Once students are ready for an additional challenge, provide the different-font cards or beginning-sound pictures.
